Full sheet watercolors are back! Recently, I have been stuck in a 1/2 sheet watercolor rut but to really break out and make an impactful piece you gotta go big. This painting was used to christen my new full sheet guerilla watercolor board this week and I could not have picked a more unique piece of Americana than this wonderful restaurant from Two Rivers Wisconsin. We stopped by and ate lunch one blustery day this past spring on a trip to the Wisconsin Lake Michigan coast. The loud, '70's era sign brought back memories of early childhood small restaurants along the St. Joseph Michigan downtown area.
I tried to stay to true impressionist watercolor form and limit details to only areas that needed them. I mixed all my blacks and capitalized on the white space where possible. Love the white, Midwest car in the parking lot with a light dusting of rust showing on the white paint. Classic restaurant, great food and fun painting!
